Santiago

Writer's picture: Jordan Taylor HillJordan Taylor Hill

The rhythms of Santiago have been living in me ever since I left Cuba. The energy, the movement, the conversations, the music that never stops—all of it shaped this track in ways I didn’t even realize until I sat down to record.

Santiago
Santiago

“Santiago” is a fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythm and storytelling, blending the pulse of salsa, the drive of montuno, and the spirit of rumba with my own take on diasporic sound. The song carries the energy of the streets of Cuba, where music moves like language, where every rhythm has history, and where every step is part of a larger journey.

The Inspiration Behind the Track

Cuba showed me the deep connection between rhythm, movement, and history. From street rumba circles to percussion-driven jazz, there’s something about the way Cuban music breathes that I wanted to capture in this song. Santiago is a reflection of that—both a celebration and a conversation.

I recorded a drum solo to go along with the release—because what’s a song without rhythm? You can check that out conga solo and let me know what you think.

What’s Next?

This is just the beginning. I have more music coming, more performances ahead, and more stories to tell through rhythm. If you’ve been following my journey, I appreciate you—your support makes this music possible.
