Diaspora

A collection of 4 tracks produced and recorded by Jordan Taylor Hill. This is a journey through the West African Diaspora starting with todays sounds of Afrobeats/Konpa/Kizomba + Rap inspired by my numerous trips to West Africa. Salsa Joint is a standard Son Cubano + Montuno production with english and spanish that is meant to be experienced in person but captured through recording to provide an essence. Slowing things down into a more relaxed Guaguanco I've put some keys to the essence of Cubas Rumba inspired by my most recent travels to Havana, though this one again is meant to be heard live with an ensemble the recording is a bookmark for your ears inspired by the heartbeat of the Caribbean island. Wrapping the EP up I decided to revisit one of the earliest rhythms I've written and published music to... Head Up is an inspiring rhythm and poetry (rap) piece that reflects on the importance of reflection, individuality, and positive self talk. These are pieces I will be sharing in performances and workshops to highlight the many aspects of traditional rhythms and dance from the African diaspora through the lens of a 21st century Artist from the States.
